Direction sign at Soya-misakiAlice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?

The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.

Alice: I don’t much care where.

The Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.

As the wise Cat told Alice, if you don’t know where you are going, it doesn’t matter what road you take.Where are you going? What is your goal? If you don’t know what to aim for, what you want to get out of this life, it does not matter how hard you try, what efforts you put in you will never get what you want. Precisely because you do not know what you want.

Vision – The Blue Dot

Vision is the blue dot, the guiding light that helps lost travelers to reach their destination, their goal. Without clearly defining the blue dot, it will be impossible to attain and achieve the blue dot. You have to decide and define where you want to go before you start the journey. Without this prior step, every thing else will fail. You may have the right tools, right resources, right energy but you will still fail unless you define the place you want to be in. Its like having the best GPS, the best car and the best road but if you don’t know where you want to visit, these things do not matter.

Vision, not Mission Statement

This blue dot or vision is often confused with mission statement. Vision is "the what" and Mission Statement is "the how". Where one can not replace the other, both are important and necessary for success. Once you decide and know "what" you want, the next step is to think about "how" should you get there. The "how", mission statement, will be discussed in the future posts.

Do you have a Vision?

It is surprising to know how many people take time and think about this seriously. Vision or vision statement is important. Do you have a vision statement? What does it look like? Would you share your vision.
